Levels
Learners can claim NVQ certification at levels 1 to 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. The framework shows how different types of qualifications compare, in terms of the demands they place on learners.
Level 1
This covers a range of activities that are largely routine and predictable.
Level 2
Level 2 is a broader range of work activities that are less routine and predictable. The learner's job role will need to have some autonomy and responsibility and may require them to work as part of a team.
Level 3
Level 3 is achieved by applying the learner's knowledge and skills through a broad range of varied work activities, most of which are complex and non-routine. Their job role will have considerable autonomy or responsibility, and often require them to manage others.
Level 4
This level can be achieved through complex work activities, which require technical knowledge. The learner's job role will require substantial personal autonomy and often require them to take responsibility for the work of others and for allocating resources.
Level 5
Level 5 can be achieved when the learner's role requires them to carry out activities in a wide range of situations that are often unpredictable. Substantial responsibility and autonomy is involved in the job role, which requires deciding on the allocation of resources and the work of others. This level requires the use of complex skills such as analysis, design and evaluation.
